About The Department :

Department of Ancient Indian History & Archaeology is an under graduate department housed in a part of college building currently used as faculty of Arts. This building is the earliest one among the buildings on the premises. Being a late colonial building its architecture reflects a synthesis of Muslim designs and Indian materials developed by British architects in India during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century known as Indo-saracenic Architecture. Earliest faculty members were Shri Girivar Shankar Dixit (1954-1955) & Shri Brij Kishor Shukla (1955-1976). Dr. Anil Shukla (1967-2001) & Dr. R.N. Misra (1974-2008) served and nurtured the Department for thirty four years each. At present the Department has 03 faculty members, 02 against permanent post and 01 against self finance. Dr. Neelima Pandey March 20, 2003 is currently functioning as department in-charge. She joined the department on March 20, 2003 as Assistant Professor. At present she is designated as Associate Professor and specialized in Archaeology, Pre-history, Women studies and Folklore.Mr.GirijeshTripathi recently joined the department on March 31, 2018 as Assistant Professor. He is pursuing his doctoral research in social history. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Tripathi joined the department on August 25, 2008 as self finance faculty. He is specialized in Archaeology and Socio-cultural history. The department has conducive pupil centric environment which helps in live interaction among the students and faculty. Overall the department has a relatively good association with its students.

About The Department :

The department of anthropology was started in the faculty of science in 1955. The department received its first head and permanent faculty in 1957 when Dr. R. S. Khare joined. Today he is one of the most renowned Anthropologists of the world and can be reachedat www.anthropology.virginia.edu/faculty/profile/rsk3mhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org>R._S._Khare. Prof. Khare is a visionary and he established the department and later started a museum in the department in 1958. His tenure continued till 1963 after which he joined a post doctoral fellowship 1963-64 at the University of Chicago. The next head of the department was Sri P. K. Tiwari who joined the department in 1963. He is a very versatile anthropologist. He not only extended the museum collection but also started the teaching of the subject as an undergraduate subject in B.A. He was responsible for getting different kinds of grants to the department from UGC , Ministry of Tribal welfare, Ministry of culture though which seminars were conducted and museum collection were done. It was under his able guidance that many field work expeditions were carried out in different archaeological sites. It is for this reason that the department has a huge collection of Prehistoric tools from various site like Bhimbetka, Pachmeri Kon. He also collected Tribal artifacts from tribal areas of M.P., Bihar, Orissa, Assam, and organised exhibitions of the same in the college. He also formed the Anthropology students association in 1964. Later the department's location was changed from science faculty to Arts block due to short of space in the faculty. After Sri P. K. Tewari’s retirement in 1998, He continued to serve the department and many other faculty came as Part Time teachers to assist him. In 2000 Dr. Anjali Chauhan joined the department. She tried to carry forth the legacy of the department. In her tenure many distinguished people were invited for guest lecturers such as Prof. B.C. Agrawal, Prof .B.R.K. Shukla, Prof. Indu Sahai, Prof. Gopal Saran, Prof Rajan Gaur, Prof A.P. Singh, Padmshri Dr. Yashodhran Mathpal. The department also carried out research project awarded from UGC entitled ITC and Tribal Development thereafter a major project from Ayodhya Shodh Sansthan Department of culture , Govt. of UP entitled Awadh ki Sanskritik Viraasat. The department also organised workshops from time to time on Kumaoni folk art – Aipan and Renovation and conservation of material culture. The museum was renovated and named VIRASAT -museum of man , we also adopted a logo of the first painting made by human beings – Spray painting of human hand. The Motto of the department was adopted as –“Sattat Parishram Sadaiv Sarvoatkrisat”. Each year the third year students to do fieldwork and prepare research reports. The topics of research are of wide range from folk culture and tribal culture to impact ICT, women’s security, unemployment and other social problems. The department also conducts career counselling for its students from time to time. We also arrange Remedial classes for weak students and try to extend help through mentor scheme. We continue to strengthen our museum collection by bringing in objects from fieldwork and encouraging small student`s contribution of material cultural objects from their villages of residence. Of late we have also stepped into the social media to reach large audience through creation of a facebook page https://m.facebook.com/jnpgvirasat. We have upgraded our labs by purchasing some of the latest equipment and redesigned the lab space. The Anthropology students association (ASA) conducts programme in the department from time totime like Group discussions, ppt presentations, debates and freshers and farewell party. The department also convened seminars on Promoting cultural tourism in 51 Shaktipeeth of South Asia, Sponsored by ministry of tourism and ministry of culture govt. of U.P. and a workshop on Ramayan – The Epic process sponsored by Ayodhya Shodh Sansthan. The department was represented on national and international forum several times. The countries include UK, Canada, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, china, Thailand and Vietnam. The department supports the activities of Anthropology department in University of Lucknow different colleges of Lucknow. It offers consultancy with regards to social issues, culture heritage management development and social change

About The Department :

Department of Arab Culture was established in the Faculty of Arts of Sri Jai Narain P.G. College, Lucknow in the year 1961. Mirza Kamal Beig was the only lecturer in the department back then. He continued teaching till 1987 and got retired in the same year. He was also a social worker and politician. Alongwith his teaching assignment in the department, he also worked for the Municipal Corporation of Lucknow. He was a kind-hearted man and was very popular among his colleagues and students. After his retirement, Dr Rajesh Kumar Pandey was appointed as Reader on 5th December 1987 followed by Dr. Mohd Javed Habib who was appointed as lecturer on 22nd February 1989. Both of them continue to serve the department at present on the post of Associate Professors.
The department organises debates, student seminars and guest lectures for its students on relevant topics like “The importance of Arab Countries”, “Islamic Architecture” etc. The Alumni from the department of Arab Culture have achieved lots of success in various fields at national and international levels. Some of them include Sri Sunil Singh Sajan who was an ex state minister and at present holds the position of M.L.C, Sri Virendra Tiwari who was an EX BJP state Association Minister and at present has been appointed as Lac Pad Chairman U.P. Government and Sri Zakir Ali Rajneesh who is an author of national and international repute having won many prestigious awards in this field.

About The Department :

Established in 1954, the department has been engaged in quality teaching of various aspects of economic theory and policy to the undergraduate and postgraduate students by the experienced and committed faculty. With a view to arrive at appropriate policy-mix for accelerating growth and maximising welfare of the masses the focus is on equipping the students with both analytical and empirical tools of economic analysis Thus, endeavour is made to enhance the employability of the students through the theoretical and functional knowledge stemming from seminars and discussions. Shri Balbhadra Prasad Bajpai was the founder head of the department. In the past, Shri B.N. Dixit and Shri P.N. Trivedi have been distinguished teachers of the department. Presently, the department is being headed by Associate Professor Dr. Bharti Pandey who specialises in Public Finance, International Economics and Development Studies. Dr. Hilal Ahmad, Associate Professor is another experienced faculty in the department. His area of specialisation is Industrial Economics and New Economic World and India. Dr. Manas Mani Tiwari, Mr. Dhurandhar Yadav and Ms. Samia Ansari are Assistant Professor in the department. Dr.Tiwari specialises in Agricultural Economics and Indian Economy. Mr.Yadav and Ms. Ansari specialise in Econometrics and Mathematics for Economic Analysis. With a view to inculcating democratic values and enhancing the understanding of inter-disciplinary nature of development, ‘Student Economic Council’ is functional in the department. The Motto of the Council is ‘Karmasu Kaushalam’. In fact, the Council is the forum for students’ brain-storming and channelising their creative thinking in the holistic development of the country.

About The Department :

The Department of Education was founded in 1960.The founder faculty of the Department was Dr. M.P Shukla, who heralded it to the height of dignity on the dint of his perseverance and hard effort. To start B.Ed. course in 1972 was his great contribution to the institution. For this he will be remembered forever. Enriching both departments he retired in 1977 after which Dr. T.P. Gupta took the charge. Dr. Gupta, a devoted teacher and good academician gave a new height to both Departments. He published several research papers and Books on Education. He served the department till 1966. Dr. S.L. Mali joined the Department in February 1997.Dr. Mali gave new direction and dimension to the Department through his intuition and insight. Dr. Mali took up the charge of IGNOU B.Ed. as an Add on course in November 2010 and continued to work as Programme In charge till June 30, 2013 after which Dr. Renu Srivastava took up the charge of Programme In charge. Dr. Mali had number of research papers published in Journals of great repute. He also published a book on ‘Innovations in Education’. Nothing lasts eternal. Dr. Mali retired on June 30, 2013 handing over the charge of the Department to his colleague Dr. Renu Srivastava who joined the Department in 2000 under transfer scheme from Sri Narayan Girls P.G. College Unnao after 18 years’ of her service in B.Ed. Department. A devoted teacher and a committed person Dr. Renu served the Department with complete loyalty and passion to take the department to great peaks. She has a book to her credit titled ‘Development of Education’ which is very useful for undergraduate students. One of the glorious achievements of the Department in the regime of Dr. Renu is that two IGNOU learners Pratima and Purti topped in B.Ed. final exam and were awarded gold medals in IGNOU Convocation by Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, Delhi in 2013. After the retirement of Dr. Renu Srivastava, Dr. Rashmi Soni joined the Department as Head in November 2017. She also joined the college under the transfer scheme from Mahila Vidyalaya Degree College, Lucknow after her 16 years of successful teaching experience in the B.Ed. Department. Dr. Soni is a practicing psychologist and a trainer in Personality Development. She has five books to her credit and number of papers published in national and international journals. The Department is now complete after Mr. Manish Mishra from Fatehpur joined the Department on the post of Assistant Professor in August 2018 after being selected through Higher Education Commission. The Department has been organizing a number of programmes from time to time for the benefit of the students. Guest lectures on various topics by reputed persons like Dr. P.K. Khatri, clinical psychologist, Prof. Anil Shukla, presently Vice Chancellor of Rohailkhand University Bareilly, Dr. Arun Kumar, Associate Professor, Lucknow University, and Dr. Gaurav Rao, presently Associate Professor in Bareilly University. Remedial and Enrichment classes for students are arranged from time to time for their academic growth and excellence. Student Seminars and discussion on various issues are organized in classroom situations to give students opportunity to develop their speaking skills and develop confidence. The Department is undoubtedly committed towards the all-round growth and development of the personality and potential of the students.

About The Department :

The Department of English at Sri JNPG Misra College was founded in the year 1954. Shri Bihari Lal Shukla, a scholar of great learning and erudition was its founder Head. In 1956-57, Mr. B.N. Tripathi and Mr. J. B. Mishra joined the department. After a brief stay Mr Mishra joined the University of Lucknow. Late Prof. Tripathi had a remarkable in-depth study in English, Bengali and Sanskrit poetry. Mr. O. P. Dixit, a teacher par excellence, joined the department in 1967. Mr. Aditya N. Agnihotri and Dr. Siddheshwar Pandey were perceptive critics and creative writers. Along with Mr. B. P. Parashar, a scholar of tremendous verve and dynamism, they organized three National seminars in 1987, 1989 and 1994. The trio launched successfully an English Research Journal KEN that published stalwarts of the discipline. Mr. Awadhesh Kumar Bajpai who joined in 1991, had an untimely demise in 2008. Dr. Asha Agarwal from Sitapur and Dr. N. D. Dani from Gola joined the department in 2000 and 2007 respectively. Both of them served the department with utmost sincerity and devotion and got retired in 2012 and 2015 respectively. Dr. Dani's critical and humorous articles were published in journals of great repute. Dr. Sudheer Chandra Hajela joined the department in 1994 followed by Dr. Chitwan Varma in 1996. Dr. Hajela, took over the Charge of the Department in 2008. He runs an ISSN research journal entitled Dialogue since 2005. Dr. Chitwan Varma served as the in charge of the Department from 2014 to 2016. She is UGC National Research Awardee (2002-2005) and ICSSR Fellow (2012-2014). Dr. Mamta Dixit joined the Department in 2009 as Asst Prof. (Self finance). She has done her research on Dr. Khushwant Singh. The Dept. was granted permission to run M A in English under self finance scheme in 2017 and Mr. Vipin Pandey and Dr. Shuchi Gupta were appointed as Asst. Prof. (Self finance). Dr Siddhartha Singh joined the department in 2018 under the provisions of State’s Teachers transfer scheme from MMPG College, Kalakankar, Pratapgarh as Associate Prof. He has a book on eminent critic Herold Bloom and a number of research papers in reputed journals.
In order to equip students of the college, with soft skills, the department has been running a six month Add-on Course in Communication Skills and Personality Development since 2008.

About The Department :

Faculty of arts was established in 1952.At present medieval modern and European history is taught in UG classes. Total seven papers are taught , two papers in B.A-I, , two papers in B.A-II, , three papers in B.A-III. Dr. D.P. Roy Chaudhary was first to join the M.I.H DEPARTMENT .He was appointed as lecturer on 1-11-1955 and after serving the department for thirty seven years he retired on 30-6-1992. He constituted a historical council which use to organize debates , group discussions and guest lectures. Presently Dr. RAJESH KUMAR TIWARI associate professor is head of the M.I.H DEPARTMENT. After D.P. ROY CHAUDHRY’s retirement Dr. R.K. TIWARI was appointed on 7-8-1999. Dr. RAVI RANJAN SINGH BHADAURIA joined M.I.H DEPARTMENT as assistant professor {self –finance} on 1-8-2008.

About The Department:

The Physical Education Department at Shri Jai Narain P.G. College has a long and illustrious history and a vibrant present. The College was established in the year 1954. The department was known foremost for bonafide Olympians Padamshree Shri K.D. Singh Babu, Mohd. Shahid, Syed Ali and Sujeet Kumar. The department strives to inculcate appropriate values and qualities required to develop sports person and physical education professionals at various levels. The founder members of the department were Dr. J.N. Daundiyal, Dr. A.P. Singh, Dr. C.K. Mukherjee and Dr. K.N. Tripathi. The department coordinates the games and sports activities and provides opportunities for the students to demonstrate their competence in intercollegiate sports meet under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Madhu Gaur (Head) and Dr. Abhishek Kumar Singh.

The admission policies encourages students from all stages of our State. The department has facilities for games like Volleyball, Football, Cricket, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Indoor Badminton and Table- Tennis. The department has organized a National Seminar on “Trends, Issues & Challenges in Physical Education” in the year 2017. The Physical Education & Sports science is one of the fast emerging academic disciplines in our education stream and large number of institutes offer variety of programs in teacher education specializing in physical education and sports science and sincerely strives to develop the areas of professional competence and expertise in teaching Physical Education as a major subject.

About The Department :

The Political Science department is one of the oldest departments of the college. It was established in the year 1954. It has been adorned by the services of many a scholar and intellectuals.
Shri Kali Dutt Shukla was the first teacher in the department. In fact he had joined KKC inter college in 1938 and later with the establishment of the Department of Political Science in 1954, joined the degree section. He also served the college in the capacity of Vice-Principal of the Arts Faculty. Till his retirement in 1963.
Shri Shukla had witnessed the national movement first hand. He had a great knowledge about the condition of the Indian society and polity during the British Raj. This was reflected in his lectures which were fiery and displayed his academic and oratory skills.
Shri Jagdish Shankar Shukla joined the department in 1965 and worked till 1981. He possessed a very good knowledge of political thought. Later he shifted to the DAV College. Dr D.P.S. Verma has been the longest serving member of the faculty so far. He joined the department in 1966 and taught here till 1996. He is the son of the renowned Hindi literary figure, late Shri Bhagwati Charan Verma. He authored several books inheriting the great legacy of his father.
Dr Bhuwanesh Chandra Mishra was a distinguished scholar of high repute and is still remembered fondly by many. He joined the Department of Political Science in 1971 from Kany Kubj inter College and retired in the year 1993. He was a great champion of Indian civilisation, values and ethos. He was also a witness of the Indian freedom struggle and its currents and under currents. He possessed in depth knowledge of the 3 streams of Indian political thought: liberal, idealist and socialist. He held continuous dialogue with his contemporary politicians, thinkers and intellectuals like Ram Manohar Lohia, Jai Prakash Narayan, Chandra Shekhar and Dalai Lama to name a few. He is the main inspiration behind the establishment of Kumar Swami Foundation, which holds annual lecture series in his memory.
Dr Arvind Agnihotri served the department from 1989 to 1994.
The department currently has the distinction of all its members being UGC-NET and JRF qualified. At present there are 3 teachers in the department.
Dr Shuchi Misra, Associate Professor, joined the department on 12/08/1996 after being appointed by the Higher Education Commission. She is the senior most member of the faculty at present. She has also served the college in various capacities.
Dr Aruni Sharma, Associate Professor, Joined the department on 25/02/2000. He has also come after being appointed by the Higher Education Commission.
Dr Brajesh Chandra Mishra, Associate Professor, joined the department on 10/08/2010. He came through transfer from Lala Lajpat Ray PG College, Sahibabad Ghaziabad. He has served in various college committees.

About The Department :

The Department of Sanskrit, an undergraduate department in the Faculty of Arts, was established in 1952. Ever since, the department has been nurturing students with competence, conscience and intellect. The department has always strived to promote the Sanskrit language which holds an integral position in our Indian culture.
Former members of the department were Dr. S.P. Dwivedi (1961-1966) and Dr. Devi Dayal Tripathi (1965-1978). Previously, Dr. Jai Shankar Mishra (1966-2000) and Dr. D.D. Shukla (1974-2007) served the department for more than thirty years. Presently, the department has two permanent members: Dr. Namita Nigam, who joined in 2006, functioning as the department in-charge and Dr. Kiran Singh Sengar. Both of them are currently designated as Associate Professor. Dr. Namita Nigam is a M.A. in Sanskrit Literature. She has pursued her Ph.D. in the same field and has also qualified J.R.F. Dr. Kiran Singh Sengar is a M.A. in Sanskrit Literature and has pursued her Ph.D. in the same discipline. The department focuses on the all-round development of the students. The aim of the department is to create an environment that caters to the needs of its students.
The department has a well organised departmental library for the guidance and help of the students. Internet facility is also available. Various academic activities are organised from time to time to enhance the overall development of the students. Guest lectures by distinguished Professors are arranged to invigorate the students and enhance their field of knowledge. These activities help immensely, in the holistic development of the students. Students of the department have continuously shown remarkable dedication towards academics and extra-curricular activities and have brought many laurels to the department.

About The Department :

Department of Sociology is one the oldest department in the faculty of Arts and was established in the year 1953. Sri Vishwa Nath Shukla, an eminent sociologist and a product of Lucknow School of Sociology has credit of establishing the department as founder head. He had established the department in the great traditions propounded by stalwarts of Sociology D P Mukerji, D N Majumdar and A K Saran. Department was joined by Dr R K Pandey and Dr G K Agarwal in 1962 and in 1963 respectively. Later on both of them moved to University Department. In 1964 the department was extended and Sri Raj Guru Misra and Sri J P Misra have joined. In the year 1969 Dr A S Tewari has joined the Department. In the year 1988, Dr Vinod Chandra has joined the department and after two years Smt Tara Singh has joined the department. From the year 1990 the total strength of the faculty become five. Dr Ritu Ghosh Joined the department in 2001 and Dr A K Pandey and Dr Sudhir Kumar Singh have joined in year 2003 and 2009 respectively. After serving three two and half years Dr Sudhir Kumar has left the department to join All India Service in the Information Department after qualifying Union Public Service Examination. Dr A K Pandey has also left the department to join another P G College innhis home town of Gorakhpur. In the year 2015, Dr Anita Bajpai and Dr Shamama Mirza have joined as Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department. Currently, the department of sociology has five permanent faculty and three faculty on contractual basis. Mr Ajay Kumar Tripathi has joined the department to teach BA Self-Finance Classes in 2000 on contractual basis.

About The Department :

Department of Computer Science is one of the important Departments in Faculty of Science. There are two lecture theatres out of which one is a smart class besides one digital lab and well equipped computer lab with 100 Computer Systems that are LAN and Wi-Fi enabled. The Department was established in 1946 as one of the three foundation subjects of B.Sc. course. The Founder Head was Prof. S.S. Majumdar who was a noted taxonomist. The department became a renowned seat of learning under teachers like Prof. S. P. Bhatnagar, Prof. O. S. Bajpai, Dr. M. C. Dubey, Dr. P.S. Chandel, Dr. S. R. Singh, Dr. S. N. Bahoray, Dr. J.K. Misra, Dr. J. P. Shukla, Dr. Harish Verma, Dr. Anil Misra, Dr. Alok Misra & Dr. S. D. Dwivedi. The museum of Botany department has around 200 specimens of well-preserved plants from algae to the gymno and angiosperms. The Botany department also has a herbarium of around 500 sheets arranged in the Bentham and Hooker system and some of the collections are as old as 1946. The Botanical Garden of the Faculty houses around 400 species of common and rare plants. Some rare and endangered plants include Ginkgo biloba, Ficus krishnii, Zamia pygmea etc. There is one AC Smart Room with PPT facility, 4 Laboratories, a Staff Room, 1 Departmental library and a small kitchenette.
The Department regularly organizes Student seminars, Quiz, Group Discussions, Painting-Competitions etc. The students are also given assignments like Projects, Herbaria and Science models preparations alongwith their scheduled classes. Internal Assessments, paper discussion and Practical Revision are special features of our Department. The teachers of the department frequently utilize the ICT facilities for delivery of lectures in addition to normal theory and Practical sessions. The Department of Mathematics came into existence with the establishment of the college in 1947. It was led by Sri K L Dixit and had strength of about 20 students. He was later joined by Sri K N Pathak and Dr H S Shukla, who together formed the first group of teachers. The department offers undergraduate courses to the students of both – Arts and Science stream students and is expected to run post-graduate course soon. It also runs an add-on course for advanced studies, preparing the students for entrance exams for higher education. Presently, it is endowed with well qualified and talented teachers at 7 permanent posts and about 800 students are enrolled in it.The teachers are authors and editors to many books and have published/presented research papers in various international and national journals/ conferences. The department follows the curriculum prescribed by the University of Lucknow. The department sponsors “Sri Anoop Dwivedi Smriti Padak”, an award of Rs 1000 to B.Sc.(I) student who secures highest marks in Mathematics in University exams. The award is in the memory of Sri Anoop Dwivedi, an accomplished teacher of the department, after his untimely demise in 2010. The department has a smart room for teaching and its own rich library with over 500 books from reputed national and international publishers, of which about 200 have been donated by the faculty to enhance the stock. Focusing on the overall development of the students, the department introduced many innovative programmes to nourish and evolve the students in 2013,including regular organization of departmental meetings, internal assessments through which students are assessed and informed to improve their performances in respective topics, guest lectures, parent-teacher meetings and also election of class representatives for smooth functioning. Programmes like presentations, quizzes and students’ lecture demonstration directly involve students and help in boosting their self-confidence. Special remedial classes for weaker students and enrichment classes for the polished students are organised for enhancing their ability and expertise. A weekly schedule is displayed on the notice board for every week. The department of Zoology was started in the year 1946 along with Botany and Chemistry as a part of the upgradation of KKC Intermediate college to KKC degree College. Sri V. R. Mishra started the department as its first In-charge. He later on also worked as Principal of the college from 1962 – 67. After him, Dr. Ramesh Gupta took over the reins of department in 1962 and remained in this position for more than 30 years. Dr. Ramesh Gupta also wrote a book “Modern Zoology” which is till date the most useful Zoology book for intermediate as well as medical preparatory examination throughout the country. During his tenure there was a massive expansion of the department and number of teachers rose to 11 with approval from the government.
The department has seen many a notable faculty including Sri. R. C. Pandey, Sri. K. L. Kapoor, Sri. G. K. Chakravorty, Dr. N. Bajpai, Dr. R. C. Misra, Dr. S. S. Lal, Dr. V. K. Jain, Dr. R. K. The faculty of commerce has been one of the best faculty which has always attracted the students from Lucknow city and the adjoining areas and has been able to maintain its reputation since 1954 the year of the beginning of the commerce faculty. Shri Jagdamba Sharan Mishra who was respectfully called “Dada Ji”was the first faculty member who nurtured this faculty with his endeavor. During the late 1960’s, the department of Commerce got the status of the faculty of commerce with the creation of three departments. In the year 1981 under the special scheme of Government of India, a COSHIP plan was introduced. In the 1985 the total number of seats in B.Com classes were increased to 880 by the University of Lucknow. In 1986 the two year degree course was replaced by three year degree course by the University of Lucknow in view of the new education policy initiated by the government of India. In the year 1996, with the sincere efforts and guidance of Dr.H.N.Dwivedi,the then principal, started first UGC sponsored vocational coursein the faculty of commerce with an approved strength 30 students.The course is duly approved by the University of Lucknow. This course has generated ample employment in the organizations engaged in International business. In the year 1998, with the incessant efforts of the then secretary manager of the college managing committee Sri K.N.Mishra, the two post graduate courses namely M.Com (Applied Economics) was started by the college. The faculty of commerce under the leadership of the young Principal Prof. S.D.Sharma started M.Com(Commerce) in self–finance mode with the approved 60 seats and B.Com (self-finance) with 200 seats in the year 2007. All the above courses were approved by the University. The principal of the college Prof.S.D.Sharma is pioneer to take imitative to conceive and start the various job oriented certificate programmes in the faculty of commerce. The Faculty of Commerce was established in the college in the year 1954 with three founder teachers namely Shri Jagdambika Sharan Mishra, Shri Rameshwar Mishra and Shri Shridhar Balaji Laghate. In the year 1964, the Faculty of Commerce was divided into three separate departments: 1. Department of Commerce headed by Shri Jagdambika Sharan Mishra, 2. Department of Applied Economics headed by Shri Rameshwar Mishra and 3. Department of Business Administration headed by Shri Shridhar Balaji Laghate.
Department of Business Administration continued its journey under able guidance and headship of Shri S. B. Laghate and Dr. Bachchu Lal Mishra also joined him in the year 1973. Shri Laghate retired in the year 1989 transferring the headship to Dr. B. L. Mishra. Later in the year 1990, Dr. Kaushal Kishore Shukla joined the department. Dr. B. L. Mishra retired in the year 2011 and Dr. K. K. Shukla took over the headship. He still continues as the Head. Recently in the year 2019 Dr. Mohd. Arif joined the department. The department continues to enjoy a good reputation among the learners and the academicians around the country. Dr. K. K. Shukla also manages the responsibility of the discipline in the college being the Proctor In Chief. He is also the ANO and heads the prestigious NCC Army unit of the college. The unit has produced many army officers who have been awarded with medals like Vir Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.

About The Department :

Law faculty was established in 1972 when the resolution regarding granting of permission to start classes from session 1972-73 for LL.B. (three years) was passed in the meeting of executive council of the University of Lucknow on May 13, 1972. At the time of establishment of the faculty three lecturers were appointed, viz., Sri S.K. Kapoor, Sri R.K. Sinha and Sri V.N. Pandey. Lucknow University granted permission to admit 600 students in the beginning. The timings of the department was from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. as decided by the college management with the consultation of district administration keeping in view that the service class students might also be adjusted. Later on the strength of the students was increased to 800 and after that 1000 by the University. The strength of the lecturers was increased to 18 by the state government in 1976. The faculty has been inspected thrice by the Bar Council of India - firstly in 1985, secondly in 1997 and thirdly in 2012. Bar Council granted permission to continue classes with the conditions that the strength of students must be restricted to 320. So now the student intake is 320. As far as the teachers’ strength is concerned some have been retired and new have been appointed and now there are 12 teachers in the faculty and 06 posts are still vacant. In the beginning, Sri V.N. Pandey was appointed as head of the department in 1972 and remained head till 1987. After that Sri R.K.Sinha took over charge as Incharge Principal, Faculty of Law and he held the post till 2003. From whom Dr. R.N. Nigam took over the charge and remained incharge till 2013. After that Dr. S.K. Pandey became Incharge and remained till 2014. From Dr. S.K. Pandey, Sri S.L.A.Khan took over charge who is still serving as head of the department. It is to be mentioned that in the year, 1974-75 (the first batch result) Sri Uma Shankar and Major Awasthi, later Lt. Colonel, got 1st and 2nd positions respectively in the Merit list of the University of Lucknow. In the same year all the first ten positions were also grabbed by the college students. This trend continued till 1980 and after that university stoped publishing the merit list. But every year our students receiv gold medals. In 2014 Sri G.K. Goswani, an I.P.S. officer and in 2015 V.K. Dubey, Income Tax Commissioner received gold medals. In the year 2016 Shivam Tripathi received five gold medals and last year Km. Harshita Tewari received three gold medals. One of our students Km. Surabhi Mishra, a student of LL.B. III Semester in 2016-17, got first-prize and Rs. 15,000/- as prize money for essay writing competition from State Legal Service Authority. Besides having various civil servants and army personnel as students, the Faculty of Law produced many great personalities like Justice Abdul Mateen, Justice V.K. Dhawan and Justice Umesh Chandra, who retired as high court-Judges. Sri Shyam Sunder is still serving as District Judge, Lalitpur and Sri Sukesh Sahni is working as Senior Hydrologist, Groundwater Department. Sri Vibhakar Pandey is retired as G.M., Coal India Ltd. and Dr. S.K. Bhatnagar retired as Dean & Head, Department of Law, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. Law faculty is having a glorious past with regard to the publication of journal. Since its inception, i.e. 1972, the Law faculty is publishing a journal ‘Law Review’ and till date it is being published every year with some improvement. Now we got ISSN number also. Till 1997-98, the LLB course was annual and after that semester system was introduced by the University following the instructions given by the Bar Council of India. The Faculty of Law admitted only male students till 2015. Since 2015-16 the faculty have started admitting girl students also with the efforts of our respected Principal Prof. S.D. Sharma with the view to cater better students. Now the Law education in the college is co-ed. At the time of inception, Shri V.N. Pandey acted as Incharge Principal, Faculty of Law. He remained Incharge till 1987 and after that Shri R.K. Sinha took over charge. He remained Incharge till 2003. After Shri R.K. Sinha, Dr. R.N. Nigam took over charge and remained in office till 2012. Dr. S.K. Pandey took charge in 2012 and remained in office till 2014 and after him Shri S.L.A. Khan took charge from him and still working in the capacity of Incharge.

About The Department :

The Department of B.Ed, was established in 1972 due to the efforts made by Dr. M.P. Shukla, Head, Department of Education with an intake of sixty seats for boys. During the initial years, Dr. M.P. Shukla was the head of both the departments, viz., the Department of Education and Department of B.Ed. Initially the department was granted temporary affiliation. The very next year, i.e., in 1973 the department was granted permanent affiliation by the University of Lucknow, Lucknow. The department was granted recognition by the NCTE in 1997. Dr. R.M. Mishra, Shri S.C. Pandey and Dr. L.B. Bajpai were appointed in the department in 1974 and served in the department until their retirement in 2000, 2006 and 2008, respectively. Shri L.S. Chaturvedi joined in the department in 1977 and remained till 1999. After the retirement of Dr. M.P. Shukla in 1977, Dr. T.P. Gupta became the Head of both the departments, i.e., Education and B.Ed. However, after the untimely demise of Dr. T.P. Gupta in 1996, Dr. R.M. Mishra took the charge of the department. Dr. S.C. Pandey succeeded Dr. Mishra in 2000. Dr. M. Verma served in the department from 1999 to 2001, when he was appointed as a Reader in the Faculty of Education, University of Lucknow, Lucknow. Dr. Ram Vilas Sharma, joined the department in 2000 after getting transferred from Kalakankar, and remained till 2007. Another feather was added in the department in 2006 when the department also started another B.Ed. programme in distance mode as the study centre 27108 was established by Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi due to the colossal efforts of Prof. S.D. Sharma, Principal of the college. 100 seats were allotted by IGNOU to the centre. Dr. L.B. Bajpai was appointed the first Programme In-charge of the study centre. Dr. L.B. Bajpai also headed the department from 2006 to 2008. Dr. Ram Bachan joined in the department as assistant professor in 2000 and became the head in 2008. Dr. Payal Gupta had joined the department in 2008 after getting transfer. Dr. Sushma Mishra joined in 2013, Dr. Tirmal Singh in 2014, and Dr. Archana Sharma and Dr. Perveen Kumar in 2015 after getting transfer. Dr. Payal Gupta became the head of the department in 2016 after the retirement of Dr. Ram Bachan. Another faculty Dr. Mani Joshi joined in the department in 2017 after transfer. At present, the department posses six permanent learned faculty members. The department organised a national seminar in 2007 on Curriculum Review. The Vice President of the NCTE and Dr. Krishan Mohan Tripathi, Director, Research Wing, Directorate of Higher Education were among the important dignitaries who graced the seminar. The Department organised another two-days national seminar on Making of Inclusive Society: Fostering Adaptation for Persons with Disability (Divyangjan) on March 25-26, 2017. The seminar was sponsored by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi. It also received financial assistance from the State Bank of India. Prof. Harikesh Singh, Vice-chancellor, Jai Prakash Narain University, Chhapra, Bihar was the keynote speaker in the seminar. Prof. R.C. Patel from M. S. University, Baroda, Prof. Sushma Sharma from University of Kurukshetra, Prof. K. K. Agarwal (retd.) from King George Medical University, Lucknow, Prof. U. C. Vashistha from University of Lucknow, Prof. Navleen Kaur from University of Punjab, Chandigarh, Prof. Atul Joshi from Kumayun University, Nainital, Shri S.K. Srivastava, Member Secretary, Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi, Ms. Kamini Srivastava, a divyang and well known officer of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Govind Singh Rawat, DGM (B & O), State Bank of India, Lucknow, Dr. Ratnesh Kumar, former Director, Institute of Orthopedically Handicapped, Kolkata, Prof. Ravikant, Vice-chancellor, King George Medical University, Lucknow inter alia addressed the audience in the seminar as resource persons. The seminar was attended by a large number of faculty members, school teachers, research scholars, students as well as participants from administration and social organisations, including divyangjan from various walks of life. People graduated from the department are serving in various walks of life. Some of them have been able to achieve remarkable career in their academic and professional life. For example, Prof. Anil Shukla, who is presently serving as the Vice-chancellor of MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly completed his B.Ed. from the department. Before becoming vice-chancellor he has served in the NCTE as well as professor and head in the faculty of education. Prof. Nagendra Kumar, who is presently serving in the Faculty of Education, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Dr. Gaurav Rao, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, CSJM University, Kanpur, Mr. Amit Kumar, Education Officer, University Grants Commission, New Delhi, Mr. Sunil Kumar, Amity University, Mr. Ajit Pandey, Librarian, Shri Jai Narain PG College, Lucknow and Mr. Shalabh, ARC Field Officer, Secretariat Lucknow, are among other notable alumni of the department. Majority of our alumni are serving in various schools and colleges as teachers, principals and education officers. An important development took place in the department in 2015 when one year B.Ed. programme was converted into a two-year programme as devised by the NCTE and followed by the University of Lucknow, Lucknow. In the new pattern the department was given a unit of 50 students. In 2015-16, Female students were admitted in B.Ed. The department regularly organises various academic and co-curricular activities. Guest lecture by eminent academicians like Prof. Balraj Chauhan, Vice-chancellor, RML National Law University, Lucknow and Prof. U.C. Vashishtha, Head and Dean, Faculty of Education have been organised by the department in recent years. Student seminars are organised every year in the department. Engagement in community development programmes like ‘literacy programme’, each one teach one, campus cleaning, plantation, blood donation, SUPW, exposure in various cultural activities, personality development activities such as debate, group discussion, extempore, brain storming, screening of movies, yoga and meditation, excursion and visit to educational institutions and places of historical importance, museums and science exhibition, use of ICT based technologies in teaching, arts and crafts, etc. constitute important components of our pedagogy. Since, its establishment year till now, department is continuously engaged in providing qualitative teacher education. Entire faculty members are dedicated and committed towards shaping, forming and moulding the teacher educators to be beacons of light in our society.

The Co-Educational Department of Physical Education Shri Jai Narayan P.G. College, Lucknow was established in the year 1952 and B.P.Ed. Course started in the year 1993.The Founder members of the department were Dr. C. K. Mukherjee and Dr. K. N. Tripathi. Department’s present core team of Faculty Members are Dr. N. K. Bajpai (Incharge), Dr. D.M. Tripathi, Dr. Kamil Khan, Dr. Anil tripathi, Dr. Sharad Chaurasia and Dr. Suyash Shukla. About The Department :

The year, 2006 became an evidence of fresh breezes coming into the premises of the college. With an objective of preparing young management professionals to fulfill the demand of emerging economy, the college opened a three year full time, under graduate management programme; ‘BBA-with specialization in International Business’ in 2006, under the permanent affiliation with, IMS, University of Lucknow. The dept. ‘BBA-IB’, Centre for Management Studies and Foreign Languages’ also pioneered for the entrance of female students after a very long time in this prestigious college of the town. This was the restart of co-education era and by today, about 4600 girls are part of this college. Prof. S.D. Sharma, principal of the college, Dr. A.K. Awasthi, dept. of Applied Economics, faculty of Commerce, Dr. Salil Chandra, dept. and faculty Commerce, were among the founders team of the dept. Dr. Saman Khan, and Mr. Anchal Dwivedi had glory to teach and guide its first batch of sixty students in 2006. Mr. Alok Nath Upadhyay (2007-07) and further in 2008, Mr. Vijay Raj Srivastava, Mr. Santosh Bharti, and Mr. Ashish Awasthi Joined as faculty. Dr. Shweta Mishra, Mrs Meenu Arora, Ms Vibha Tripathi were the faculties in mid of the duration. Presently, Dr. A.K. The department has successfully completed its 12 years in 2018. In a very short span of time, the dept. has carved a niche in the field of management education by providing ten batches of sincere, responsible and skilled professionals to the society till the date. From BBA-IB, many of the students have now been placed in various multinational and national companies in last few years. A full fledged placement and training cell has been providing ample opportunities to the students since the inception of the programme. The department is also running a three month certificate add-on-programme in Foreign languages say French, German and Russian since 2014. The department has regularly made efforts to improve and support its pedagogy by organizing 06 National Seminars, 02 Faculty Development Programmes, a number of Students Capacity Building workshops and Symposiums, ‘Parent- Faculty’ meeting, three industrial visits to Goa and Chennai sea ports, visits of reputed export houses and leading public and private sectors industries. The students had participation on regular note in institutes like, IIM, IIT, IBS, ICFAI-University, AIMA-LMA, TOI, and many other all over the nation.
